Located in the South Indian state of Karnataka, Hassan is situated approximately 187 km from the state capital, Bangalore. The city extends from 13°01' North to 76°10' East. Hassan serves as a convenient base for exploring the nearby historical sites of Belur, Halebid, and Shravanbelagola. The region was under the control of the Hoysalas from the 11th to the 13th century AD, a period during which the notable temples of Belur and Halebid were constructed. Hassan also had significant Jain influences and became a center for Jain literature. The town enjoys a pleasant climate year-round, with warm summers reaching up to 35°C and an average annual rainfall of around 700 mm. Although you can visit Hassan any time of year, it is best to avoid the rainy seasons.
